The pricing of a speciality product is one of the most difficult in Switzerland. This is because of the expense of food items in the country. Many residents in Switzerland prefer to shop in surrounding countries to be able to save money and afford more food. In order to address this issue, my company is going to sell 1 bottle of maple syrup for the same amount the it would be sold for in Canada yet add on the cost of shipping to Switzerland. I have chosen this pricing strategy because it ensures that my company is able to sell 1 bottle of maple syrup at a more competitive price than other companies. To begin, advertising will be used to attract consumers to maple syrup and its availability in Switzerland because it is very difficult to find maple syrup in Switzerland. Therefore, the main purpose of advertising Canadian maple syrup is to create brand awareness and advertise the product. Although it will be fairly expensive, the maple syrup will be advertised in magazines, on major T.V. channels and on billboards in the major cities in Switzerland for the first 6 months of its introduction in the country. I believe that it is logical to spend the extra money to advertise Canadian maple syrup in Switzerland because it will be a fairly new and unique product in the country and it is important to bring attention to it and introduce it to Swiss consumers. The advertisements will attract consumers through the use of excitement and enjoyment. Due to the fact that Switzerland has very beautiful natural wonders, the ads will display the adventures and different experiences that Canadian maple syrup will take them through with one bite. I believe that this advertising tactic will be very successful because the Swiss value adventure and new experiences. The different advertisements that are used will also need to be translated into French and Swiss-German because they are the 2 main national languages in Switzerland. The reason why this is the primary market research that my company would need to conduct is because maple syrup statistics in Switzerland are very low and it is important for my company to have an idea of what consumers believe and think about maple syrup. The research will be conducted through a taste test and questionnaire. This is where in grocery stores free samples will be offered to shoppers who are interested in trying the maple syrup and after they taste it, they will be asked to fill out a small multiple choice questionnaire. Through this act, my company will be able to promote maple syrup to Swiss consumers while also doing market research that will be of use to specifically my company. See attached questionnaire.
