Mao Zhedong What Makes A Good Role Model

Improved Essays
It is true that the best way to understand society is to examine the people they choose as their heroes or role models, no matter what type of hero one considers, whether it is someone universally admired or someone who is supported by only a certain group. Heroes and role models reflect what society believes to be ideal, and even if that hero is not really what they are shown to be in the media, society picks someone based on the image they see. Acknowledging that ideal picture, even if it is fake, is important to understanding the community.

One such example is the current president of the United States, President Trump. His election in 2016 was unexpected, because a large portion of America forgot to consider the feelings of his voting base, who believe that their issues are not currently addressed by the governing bodies. While President Trump may not represent the whole country’s highest ideals, it is clear that he represents a portion of society’s ideals. For those who voted for him, he is considered a strong, intelligent person with outsider knowledge who will fight for people long forgotten. These can be considered ideals that the society values, even if the hero is only a hero to a portion of society.

Douglas MacArthur 'now geared to an arms economy which was bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and nurtured upon an incessant propaganda of fear' and this China had become. “In short, heroism means doing the right thing, regardless of the consequences”- (Unknown Author.) A hero is a figure that someone looks up to; today people look up to the celebrities of the world. However, is this actually who society should be looking up to? Celebrities, like Kim Kardashian, don’t particularly give a decent example of how people should act. When she publicly says and means things like, “I hate when woman wear the wrong foundation colour, it might be the worst thing on the planet” it should make society question their fascination with such superficiality.…

As Jim Watkins once stated, “A river cuts through rock, not because of its power, but its persistence.” Just like water, a hero should be persistent because they keep on their task and don’t give up until they reach their end goal. Heroes are people who strive for accomplishments, people who are persistent, and heroes are also people who satisfy some, but not all. Heroes are people that have a need for their accomplishment. The first example is Abraham Lincoln, which Phineas Gurley explains in Lincoln’s death sermon.…
