Imagine a life without your sibling. Or if you are a women being tossed aside at birth because you were already not good enough. This is what life was like for many in China. It is a life of not having a choice and not having very much control of your path and body. It is having citizens rights violated to fix the mistakes of past leaders. The controversial one-child policy is a violation of people's rights and while they are attempting to fix it, the affects the policy has had will continue to damage China for years.

This caused people to end up having their second child without knowing about the one-child policy (Fong). It was like committing a crime you were not aware was a crime. If you had your second child you would be penalized. The penalty usually was a forced abortion, but if you refused you would be fined. And even after being fined you were still likely to be forced to have a forced abortion. For one woman who remained unnamed told journalists some of the horrific events that happen to her because of the one-child policy. A squad stormed into her home ripped her child right from her hands, and forced her to go into a minibus to get to a clinic. “In the clinic, they gave me a shot in the arm. When I woke up two days later, the baby in my belly was gone. I didn't realise until a month afterwards that they'd sterilised me as well.” She was an innocent mother with another on the way and troops forcefully went into her house with not warrant or explanation of why they were there. All of her rights were being tossed aside when she was thrown into a minibus, separated from her child, given a shot without the woman's consent and finally her baby being aborted with absolutely no permission from her. People would try to escape from the forced abortion. The policy allowed married couples to have two children instead of one (Senthilingam). While this is in a way the step in the right direction, this is not a foolproof plan. It will never completely fix the issue and it is still violating people's rights. The Two child policy was made to increase population rate again, and fill the large gender gap. They decided to introduce this policy because not nearly enough jobs were being filled. As soon as the new policy was set many women all had their second child at once, because they had been waiting to for so long (Hall). Unfortunately, the government remains in control and in no way is this freedom. China seems to be going through cycles with everything constantly trying to gain or decrease population. Human rights are continuously being violated because as a person you should have complete and total control of the amount of children you want. The mediocre improvements have failed because China has been so harshly affected by the one-child policy that a not great change is considered good, but China will always have the effects of the old policy, no matter what new one it
