They live around coral reefs, but also go out to the open sea. Mantas have adapted to life in the water. Their flat shaped body is great for life in motion. It also makes it hard for predators to latch on to them. Their large pectoral fins are very strong, and one flip of them will accelerate them away from danger. The creature’s rough skin is covered by conical dermal denticles that help the manta become faster. Additionally, the skin is covered with mucus to prevent infections.
