CAIRO — In an extraordinary feat of kindness, Mansa Musa, skillful ruler, introduces the empire of Mali to the world by gifting gold during his hajj. At his first stop at Cairo, Egypt, just yesterday: Thursday, April 17, 1468, Mansa Musa arrived with a staggering 60,000 men and almost 100 camels, each loaded with 300 pounds of gold. That’s about 30,000 pounds in total! Needless to say, the spotlight has definitely been put on Mali and their philanthropist ruler. All around, Cairenes have been celebrating and rejoicing with their newfound wealth. The music and singing outside has yet to stop, even after 24 hours, sending waves of happiness across the city.
