He has a mother. She left him. What kind of sick person would deprive a child from having a family. It probably wouldn't have been the best family, but it would've been his. While I was still trying to process what Jerry had told me, he spoke. "Did something happen? Are you okay?" His eyes focused on me. "Yes, sorry. I just lost my train of thought," I lied. I, not wanting to continue talking about his mother, quickly changed the subject. "Anyway, I want to say thank you for all you've done. I'm afraid I'll be leaving tomorrow. I know Pa-," he interrupted me.

She had an almost silky tone of voice that was very comforting.
“Hello, I’m Miss Clark. How can I help you, ma’am?,” she asked. “Well I came to pay rent for the cabin up the road I’ve been staying in,” I said as I put down the keys and money I owed her on the desk. She then flashed me a small smile and said “thank you.”
“Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“Yes actually, there’s this boy that’s been going up to the cabin everyday and chopping wood for me. I was wondering if I can see him and say goodbye before I have to leave. His name’s Jerry.” When I said that her blushed face turned pale.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t find him at the moment. He came home last night, but something seemed wrong. He was extremely quiet, he didn’t eat and didn’t do his chores. That’s not like him at all, he’s usually very responsible.” She said not with her beautiful silky voice, but with high yet shy voice. But I suppose it’s for the best, not saying goodbye to him would be easier.
“Well thank you for the help Miss Clark, but if it isn’t a bother I do have one more thing I need help with.”
“And what would that be?,” she replied.
