Manipulation In Macbeth And The Charmer By Budge Wilson

Being manipulative to others is an inadequate character trait that can cause short term gain and a long term loss. Although, now and then, manipulation is used negatively on others for self-benefit. This can evidently cause a tragic flaw of a person which can lead to a deteriorating downfall. Manipulation and power of influence in a wrong manner changes ones character and takes over their sense of morality. As a result, these heinous acts lead to destruction and remorse. This is significant in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the short story “The Charmer” by Budge Wilson. Similarities between both pieces of literature are clearly portrayed by two characters utilizing their power of influence on others for self-benefit, ultimately leading to a downfall. Lady Macbeth from Macbeth and Zachary from “The Charmer” are both manipulative over their loved ones for personal convenience.
