Nuclear weapons were created to kill, nothing less, and they are the most dangerous machines ever invented. Not to mention they extremely difficult to manage. The Pentagon has long claimed that only 32 serious accidents have occurred with American nuclear weapons, but a document that was obtained through the Freedom of Information Act listed more than a thousand accidents involving US nuclear weapons just between the years of 1950 and 1968 (Schlosser). Almost 70 years have passed since the destruction of Nagasaki, the last time a nuclear weapon was used against a civilian target. During the destruction of Nagasaki, everything within a half of a mile of where the bomb was dropped was completely obliterated and all Japanese homes within one and a half miles from the drop site were destroyed. There is no longer a need for such a killing machine to exist on this earth, and this incident should be a morbid lesson learned
