Manhattan Project History

The headquarters of the Manhattan project was located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This was during World War II they developed a program that would be able to harness the power of fission. Then later known as the Manhattan project. The goal was to make the first atomic bomb. The reason why the Manhattan is called what it is because their original offices were in and around New York, but then late 1943 they moved down to a town later called Oak Ride, Tennessee. This town was specially designed for the Manhattan project. It was first designed in 1942 then once they were done, they let people in and the population exploded up and tell 1945. The town had 80,000 people and was using more electricity than new your city. Oak Ride purpose was to enrich uranium for the first atomic bomb. The women would have many different jobs to being a teacher all the way from being in the plants. They say the women are one reason why the town made it. They said the women kind of ran the town. The Manhattan project was very important. They needed the project to be top secret. To make it so safe was the landscape. There were guards and gates all of the town. Another way they kept the place secure by giving the people of the town badges. The badges had the persons info on it. They also had signs all over the town telling people not to tell and how important is was that the town stayed secret. Oak Ride was a city that worked 24 hours and never stopped. They took shifts to control how people worked they also played in shifts. They created a very well organized recreational thing for the people. So the same people that road the buss together would dance and have a good time together. The government did not expect the community would come to gutter so
