Men always have been the leader of the pact, but that’s not always the case. Men have always been the head of the household, or the one that’s in control of the decision, for a really many years. Esperanza sees that men have a controlling role since a young age. These experiences affect her views of men and that they are very controlling and brick in the sense that they are almost unstoppable in everyone’s eyes. In 2016, that’s not the case no more. Women have stepped up and are seen as more independent than and just as capable as men to get tasks done. Women in 2016 are seen stronger as ever and that has really changed compared to 1984.

An example is the girl who mom’s passed away, the girl had to do all the chores and cook for her father. This set almost an outline that the woman in the family household’s responsibilities is to care for the men of the house. That the women should do all the chores and the men don’t need to and it makes it seem like they don’t have to. By that she feels pressure to help do the chores and that that is her duty. In 2016, women can be the head of the household. Women get equally or sometimes a better job than their spouse. Women are more independent compared to the 1984’s. In the 1984’s women were most likely house wives and that was their ‘place’. Women stayed at home while the man was out working brining in the household income. Now in present time, a woman that work and bring income to the household is more socially acceptable compared to 1984. There are even cases in present day that the woman of the household is the one to bring in the income and the male is the stay at home
