The purpose of this proposal is to request permission to gather research, opinions, and facts from the Bellevue College community and determine whether or not a mandatory retirement age policy should be implemented.
Background
In early February I was contacted by Aaron Hillard and his administrative assistant, Jewell Evans, about making a report about whether there should be a mandatory retirement age for professors and faculty at Bellevue College.
Currently, the school has many teachers working that are over the age of seventy, which raises concerns about mental ability with aging. We must question the professors in service and ask questions about why they are working at the age they are working, we need to assess their current knowledge and abilities to work at full potential, and we need to see whether the teachers are actually wanting to retire or not, see what the pushback would be like if such a thing were to be implemented.
The way we would do this is far different than getting the student 's opinions, because instead of a questionnaire of a mass of people, I would have to contact many staff members and professors directly to ask questions. That is very easy to do seeing as the school has a staff directory with contact information. I would choose to email them, so that the busy teachers are able to get back to me on their own time, and for the ease of having a typed, written response as opposed to having to transcribe an in-person meeting or phone call. Once those opinions are collected, a detailed analysis can be made as to what opinions are the most common and popular amongst the staff, what major concerns or excitements are, and what this side of the story is really all
