Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. People have a higher chance of being successful when they have achieved a greater education. All parents want are their children to grow up and be successful. Pre-K should be highly encouraged just like how it is for elementary, high school, and college. “President Obama called again in his State of the Union address for Congress to support high-quality preschool for all, noting that 30 states are already moving ahead on this front” (Kristof). The mandatory pre-kindergarten law in California should be supported because it can positively affect a child’s social and learning skills, therefore the government should help families to pay for pre-kindergarten so children can receive the benefits it provides.

Preschool programs should be obligatory as it affects a child’s social skills and behavior due to the exposure of new interactions. Early education can benefit the students and the community because of the decrease in crime rates and the increase in employment and graduation rates. Due to the positive effects of preschool programs, the government should put more of their finances on these programs to help aid families who cannot afford them. The government gives half of their money to the military and a small percentage to education in general. Because preschools decrease crime rates within communities, the government can invest only $8,000 per child per year in preschool programs and avoid investing $90,000 per child per year in juvenile detention (Kristof).
