Only 2% of high schools provide daily physical education. There are roughly 37,100 high schools in the United States. Only 742 of those schools provide gym class every day for every student. This statistic shows that students are getting less and less time moving around and more time sitting at a stiff desk. P.E. has been proven to improve grades. Further, P.E. battles obesity. Additionally, P.E. gives kids a much needed daily workout. Although it might take up class time, P.E. should be mandatory and daily nationwide. P.E. improves grades. According to Harry Jackson Jr., In Naperville Illinois, gym class is a mandatory and daily class. "Naperville students tested in the top 10 percent worldwide on standardized math and science exams. That's in line with stacks of studies that show students do better in academic classes after physical exercise." Students grades are improving due to the amount of exercise they are getting. For instance, Paul Zientarski, a gym teacher from Naperville, said that his when his students took an international math and science test (the TIMMS test) they finished number one in the world in science and number six in the world in math. Students that took this test in the US had previously been 4th and under in science. Additionally, a study by the Institute of Medicine found that kids with more health assets scored 10 to 70 percent better on standardized tests.
