In Ripley’s article, she wrote that “Distraction, however, may be the greatest cost of them all. During football season, in particular, focus shifts away from learning” (11). If proper time management is now dedicated to studying and homework instead of distracting activities such as sports, focus on education can become a priority. By eliminating sports and other extracurricular activities such as band practice, students time can now be dedicated toward educational classes resulting in higher grades. School sports and some other extracurricular activities should be canceled to eliminate student distractions resulting in better education and lower costs for the school districts. Premont Independent School District proved the benefits of eliminating sports activities from their schools resulting in better grades for their students and better financial practices.
