Personal Intrinsic Motivators When intrinsic motivation is present, it can have a strong influence on an individual’s behaviour. In healthcare, this gives rise to individuals who are dedicated and passionate about their work. Manion (2011) identified five intrinsic motivators that influence professional behaviour: “healthy relationships, meaningful purpose, competence, choice and progress” (p. 297) and in this instance, all five were present. Workplace engagement is in place when the presence of these factors serves to stimulate and inspire individuals to achieve happiness in their professional lives.…

I never thought that I would ever end up being a Warrior Wrestler at Henry Sibley High School. It all started with one of my brothers wrestling for the High School. His head coach was close with my brother so he also knew me. He was and still is an social studies teacher at Heritage Middle school which is connected in the School district of 197. Every morning at Heritage he would see me and always call me by my brothers name and always bug me about wrestling and trying out for it.…

After participating in Date Auction and attending other VSA events such as VSOUL's potluck and UNO VSA's paper lantern night, I am motivated in connecting with and learning more about other VSA's in the Gulf Coast, and actively participating in creating a community between each VSA. The best part about being in TUVA is the amount of doors that have opened from meeting the vast Vietnamese community that exists in Louisiana alone. I envision TUVA to grow in the VSA communities in Louisiana by encouraging general members to step out of the Tulane bubble and participate in the numerous events held by VSA. I believe TUVA's presence should continue to cultivate, which means E-board members and general members should create connections with other…
The Motivational Manifesto was written by Brendon Burchard, this book is a powerful and poetic call to reclaim our Personal Power. This book starts you off with a couple of strong quotes; one by Albert Einstein and another by John F Kennedy. JFK’s goes as follows; “Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth”. As you read the book you start to feel the weight of the quote, even in the first section of the book as it breaks down human nature; on freedom, on fear, and on motivation. The second section walks you through nine declarations on what we shall do to claim our personal power and growth.…
The peer leading program is undeniably one of the most selective programs at Masco in order to have a solid group of students who are hardworking and committed to improving and keeping up the spirits of our school, and I know I would fit right into this group. I really enjoyed the way Mr.Delani described the program as a way to keep our enormous student body as a close-knit community. Peer leaders do a lot of good in the school by providing underclassmen with a role model whom they can reach out to with questions or concerns about navigating through their first year of highschool. Being that person for a group of freshmen would mean a lot to me because I want to help them reach their full potential in high school. I know, from experience, how…
It can be difficult to apply the motivational theory for some companies. There were multiple theories that businesses applied to cope with their workers to improve their motivation at work. One theory that managers have used was the expectancy theory. Expectancy theory is broken up into three stages expectancy, instrumentality, and valance (Expectancy Theory of Motivation). When using the expectancy stage, the perception of the workers by showing efforts will enable them to attain their performance goals.…

William Miller and Stephen Rollnick (2001) developed motivational interviewing approach in 1980s to specifically treat clients showing resistance to behaviour changes. MI is a collaborative and evocative technique which ensures client’s autonomy (Rollnick, Miller and Butler, 2008). According to Rollnick and Miller (2008) motivation is a phenomenon that we can influence, construct and develop within client-therapist relationship. Main focus of MI is ambivalence, which is actually a conflict between doing and not doing something. Porchaska, DiClemente and Norcross (1992) developed understand ambivalence…
I have had the blessing of touring five occupational therapy programs over the last couple of years, but purposefully visited ECU's OT program twice. I desire to attend this program because I have witnessed first hand the extensive laboratory spaces and the helpfulness of the staff. I have spoken with current ECU OT students and heard of their love for the program. I am also aware of the value and experience that a campus located near Vidant Medical Center offers. ECU is a thriving, well developed, and personal OT program that I pray to be apart of.…
The Puzzle of Motivation presented by Dan Pink was very informational, as well as, inspiring. The way we conduct business in the 21st century is very different than the way it was practiced in the previous ones. However, with the constant shifts, the way leaders and organizations motivate and inspire employees has not. Motivation of employees is vital to the success of the employees, in addition to, the organization. The following essay will discuss and describe how Dan Pink’s theories of motivation relate to the people alignment aspect of change management.…
