After their first win against a 3A/4A school the cops did not allow them to shake hands, they told their team to get on the bus and go home. It is ironic how a majority white team use to pay a majority black team $3,000 to get their butts kicked, but when the majority black team wins the majority white team does not want to shake hands. Critical Race and Conflict Theory Critical race theory focuses on the fact that racism is a normal part of American society rather than an anomaly (Marx, 2008). It is something so entrenched in society and the institutions that uphold it, that it seems normal to people in the American culture (Harrell & Pezeshkian, 2008). This can be seen in the use of microaggressions. Microaggerssions are brief everyday nonverbal and verbal slights sent to people of color unconsciously by white people, who do not understand the message they are communicating (Harrell & Pezeshkian, 2008).…

In the textbook, it defines the conflict theory as “a paradigm that sees social conflict as the basis of society and social change and that emphasizes a materialist view on society, a critical view of the status quo, and a dynamic model of historical changes.” In The Saints and the Roughnecks, there was a social inequality shown throughout the story. The Saints were the boys, who were well dressed, well mannered, and rich, that was treated differently. The movie Remember the Titans is an excellent example for sociological theories. Many topics can be observed within this movie, but two of the most prominent topics that we covered this semester are social structure, more specifically race and prejudices, and group processes, focusing on status construction. This movie takes place in a small town in North Carolina that has to deal with the shifting racial makeup of their football team, therefore high school, and therefore community. There is a lot of conflict not only between the different racial groups, but also within racial groups when people have different opinions of what is acceptable. The combination of the two racial groups leads to interesting observations of racial opinions and group…

Social Class Stratification Education and Social Class, a Conflict Perspective Conflict Theory and education are closely linked. Education uses the conflict theory to explain the inequalities in school systems. In terms of education, conflict theory has to do with the inequalities caused by tracking and standardized testing because all schools do not have the same amount of funding and learning conditions. A sociologist would say that the social stratification within education comes from the conflict theory because students are grouped based on academics even though all schools do not have the same resources. A possible solution that they would suggest would be to get rid or private schools and give all schools equal funding so that they do…
