If I were elected a government leader and it was bestrode upon my office to choose three of the most important environmental problems as my top priorities, my list would include air quality, water management, and the future of our nation’s food supply. Many people have no idea where the water they use on a daily basis comes from. Reinforcing the need to educate the general public about the dos’ and don’ts when it comes to the use of water. Protecting every drop counts, usable fresh water is in high demand and climate change has diverted normal rain fall levels in various areas in the United States. The state of California, with a population of over 38 million residences, has suffered under severe drought conditions for the last four years.
• Continues Water conservation. Reducing the amount of water we use, raises the levels of clean usable water in our local reservoirs. Wasteful and unaccountable usage not only depletes necessary reserves, but contributes to the loss of wetlands and biodiversity.
• Agriculture reform. Greater efforts in changing the way farmers grow food in this country is absolutely essential to reduce contamination. The use of pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers are tainting ground water; either through run off or absorption requiring the use of addition chemicals to be used to render usable drinking water for municipalities at the expense of the taxpayer.
