Jonathan Lopatin is a former Partner and Managing Director of the Goldman Sachs Group, who retired in 2000, following Goldman’s IPO the previous year. “Jon” had been with Goldman for sixteen years and was a manager of its foreign exchange sales and trading business. He was a colleague, (and friend) of Eric Dobkin.
He is also a Jewish scholar having graduated with an MA in Talmud at the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2009, an activist who has served on many Jewish non-profit boards and the founder of not-so simple-productions, a documentary film company that creates Jewish educational films.

He began what turned out to be a nine-year course of study at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), earning a MA in Talmud in 2009. He founded no-so-simple productions a documentary film production company.
Judaic Studies at Jewish Theological Seminary
Jonathan grew-up in a secular household and in a 2013 interview with the Times of Israel, he described his parents as “atheists for all the right reasons,” who nonetheless had “a strong Jewish identity.”
Jonathan approached his studies at JTS with the same rigor he used during his career at Goldman Sachs. When he began his JTS studies he had virtually no formal Jewish education. He soon came to realize that pursuing advanced Judaic studies without a working knowledge of Hebrew was impossible and spent several years learning the language before he entered the JTS Master 's program.
He also told the Times, that he had always enjoyed being a student and might have chosen to pursue a scholarly career if it hadn’t been for practical reasons.
