Personal Narrative: My Interview With A Manager

Management is not as simple as just being a manager. It takes many aspects working simultaneously to be a great or even good manager. A good manager is someone who is constantly looking for better ways to improve things such as time management, communication skills, and leadership skills. For a company there is nothing more vital to the stability of operations like a good manager. We were assigned to interview a manager of our choice, for me that choice was easy. I choose my uncle Steven G. Foster. Steven has two intertwining aspects to his profession. He has been the head manager at Circle-R-Ranch in Dallas, Texas since the early 1990’s; recently he has branched out to the realm of constructing leadership training for major corporations …show more content…
I have been able to witness him do both speaking and managing at the ranch venue. The one event that stands out in my mind was during 2011. The Owners and General Managers for the Texas Rangers decided that they would celebrate their team’s successful season and birth to the World Series by having a World Series party at the ranch my uncle manages. Playoff time for baseball can be very hectic. A club doesn’t completely know the will be in World Series until they are unquestionably going to be in it. When the Texas Rangers found out that they were in, the management of the organization didn’t have much time to amass all the resources for this party. Time management is also a technique that has little to no startup cost or overhead associated with it, which makes its practices available to entry level industries all the way up to blue chip corporations. ”With almost 50 percent of executives saying that they’re not spending enough time on strategic priorities, time challenges are a concern for companies not just individuals” (Bevis & Smet, 2013,pg1). Wasting valuable time is a trap that is unknowingly widely pursued. It can start without the person even realizing what they are doing. There is a direct correlation between effective managers and receiving help from coworkers. “Of those who deemed themselves effective time managers, 85 percent reported that they receive strong support in scheduling and allocating time. Only 7 percent of ineffective time allocators said the same” (Bevis & Smet, 2013,pg4). I believe my manger is evidence of being excellent at time allocation. He almost has to for his buinesses to stay afloat. Between client meetings and creating all the behind the scenes things for their desired event he has very little time to slack off and waste valuable
