He was from, and therefore published his practical list of instructions, in France, in the French language. This publication did not enter the American market, in English, until 1955, well after all three of the other theories were published. Fayol’s common sense approach to a more human way of managing employees were originally thought of as revolutionary, and therefore less efficient. I personally think that it could have helped lead to the easy going, human approach that then rolled into the 1960’s, and even into the current market. I knew CJ Buck (Chucky, when we were growing up) of Buck Knives, and was always aware of his using this approach when trying to make the lives of his employees better. He added many skylights to the production floor to improve working conditions. The Contingency Theory would seem to come from Fayol’s management principles, following those that apply in the situation. The theory is to find a best style for handling the situation at hand. Any true military management will require an autocratic management approach, while a university would embrace a style where everyone involved participated in decisions and solutions. The Systems Theory follows a scientific plan or procedure to manage people, and tends to use Taylor’s Ideas of management for procedures and policies that enhance efficiency. The Chaos Theory is not contributed to by any of the management theories mentioned so far in this paper. Chaos Theory states that everything is moving towards a more complex situation and that planned control can have little to no effect on anything, and the energy expended on trying to secure a situation is wasted
