Ari had a secret that he never knew himself, which was that he fell in love with Dante the moment that they met. He never believed in this nor did he even think about it due to his focus on being accepted as a straight normal average teen.

In Man vs Man, we have Dante vs the group of boys that pummeled him. A little later after finding out about his gay identity, he falls in love with a boy, Daniel, and makes out with him at the back of a building but was shortly spotted by a gang of boys. This particular group did not like the idea of boys kissing boys so they started to beat up Dante for his “mistake”, leaving Daniel to run away and end their relationship.

Finally, In Man vs Society, we have Ari and Dante vs Society’s stereotypes. Our society has created the stereotype that it is normal to be with the opposite sex but it is not normal to be with that same sex. This created an issue for Ari and Dante because due to the fact that being in love with the same sex is not normal influenced their sexual identities. An example of this in the novel is when Dante went out and experimented with a bunch of people at a house party because he didn’t want to assume right away that he was

Dante’s Inferno is a classic example of an individual benefitting from the struggles of a community, evidenced by the warnings given him by the tortured souls he encounters. As the hero of an epic, Dante is markedly different than Gilgamesh or Aeneas. He makes no claim of divine parentage, though the implication that he is going to paradise does lend him some measure of invulnerability in his struggle. In keeping with the trend of further humanizing epic heroes, Dante is presented as the most lifelike hero to date. He struggles with the horrors he witnesses, and his empathy for the sinners causes him to faint on several occasions.…

The text shows that Ari is not comfortable with kissing boys right now, though he accepts Dante. It shows in the way he first hesitates when Dante comes out, the way to reminds Dante that he doesn’t like boys, and the way he reacts when they do a trial kiss. Dante knows that his best friend is not comfortable with kissing him, so he will put away his love for Ari and stick with being friends—which is still a good scenario. This is one way love both creates and solves problems. Another is the more physical problem of Ari beating Julian up.…
