A man for all seasons, as demonstrated through the common man in the play by Richard Bolt, is a person with the ability to change their “self” in order to adapt to multiple situations. Literally, this person loves all the seasons, but not because he has an equal affinity for blooming flowers, surfing, pumpkin spiced lattes, and skiing. This person changes parts of their self or identity in order to embody a lover of each season. Where they might love summer because their favorite weather is hot and humid, in winter they actually change the fact that their favorite weather is hot and humid to below zero temperatures and use that as justification for the change. Many of my neighbors, my mom and my grandmother have formed a community group that works to protect the changing community. Unfortunately, our city council representative, Tito Jackson has changed his belief since his time of election dignifying himself as a man for all seasons. Jackson was elected on the precedent of a community man looking forward to work with members of Roxbury to protect and advance the community; however, after being elected his support had been non – existent. In the past year, my community had lost the fight against Marty Walsh who decided to tear down a historical school building across the street from my house without the consultation of the community or the proper legal process of destroying historical buildings. In its place, he has plans for a “glittering” charter school made of stainless steel and glass to “fit in with the aged Victorian homes and brownstones.” Tito Jackson in response to the community’s request of help virtually ignored the claims and instead supported Walsh in the lawsuit the community started to prevent the destruction. By supporting the mayor, he moved from being committed to the preservation of his of his childhood home to fighting against it for the advancement of his position in the government.
