It appears that the man and beast did not want to be seen or heard in any way. As soon as it is apparent that they have been noticed, they seem to run directly to the man’s porch (Line 19). This adds a sort of scariness to the text. The fact that they were supposedly so far away and made it their mission to turn around and gallop all the way back to where the man resided shows that this was a serious matter to them. As soon as the man and camel show up at the porch, the man utters, “You ruined it. You ruined it forever (Line 21)”. This line is the biggest kicker in the poem. The fact that it is the last line of the poem is both suspenseful and mysterious. What does he mean? This is most likely what most readers are going to ask. It is apparent that the two do not want to be seen. It is a possibility that the man and his companion wandered into the desert so they would not be witnessed. The man and camel could have thought that they were being judged, even though it is apparent that the man on the porch was not judging the two. The man was actually enjoying himself and possibly saw the performance as some type of birthday gift. The message is not completely known due to the fact that it is not the clearest of poems. Clear or not, there is a message nonetheless. The message being unclear draws attention and causes the reader to look and dig deeper, thus creating popularity for the poem. Everyone likes a mystery, so this poem is a great work to read and put the brain to work. The audience can choose to be inspired, enlightened, confused, or frustrated by this poem. They can even choose to feel all of these things. That is the beauty of this work of literature. That is what makes it so
