On May 6, 1758 in Arras, France Maximilien Marie Isidore de Robespierre was born and he is the oldest of the four children. Maximilien was the son of a lawyer. After his mother died his father had left them not to long after and he and his 3 younger siblings were raised by their mother’s mother. In 1765 Maximilien attended college at Oratorians at Arras, and in 1769 he was awarded a scholarship to a big famous college called Louis-le-Grand in paris, where he started a interest in philosophy and law. He received his lawyer degree in 1781 and he became a lawyer in Arras, his hometown in france, where he then decided to build a house with his younger sister Charlotte. Even tho people thought he had a long held isolated life he actually often visited local notables and mingled with the young people of his district. He entered many academic competitions and his “Mémoire sur les peines infamantes” (“Report on Degrading Punishments”) had won him the first place prize at the academy of Metz. By 1788 Maximilien was already very well known for his altruism. As a lawyer representing the poor people, he alarmed the privileged classes with his protest in his “Mémoire pour le Sieur Dupond” (“Report for Lord Dupond”) against the royal absolutism and the arbitrary justice. When the request for the Estates-General had been announced he had issued an appeal titled À la nation artésienne sur la nécessité de réformer les Etats d’Artois (“To the People of Artois on the Necessity of Reforming the Estates of Artois”). On March 1789 the people of Arras, France chose him as one of their representatives of the city and the Third Estate of the bailiwick had elected him fifth out of the eight deputies from Artois, and then he began his Political career at the age of
