Malessica's Short Story: No One Is Home

Moving up the left stairway, he wondered what his mom would say if she found out what he was doing. Knowing she’d be heavily disappointed, he took his mind off of it. Looking at Malessica, he wondered what was racing through her mind. She was acting off of fear than being logical, he wasn’t sure what she’d be capable of doing. They arrived at the second floor of the building looking around for apartment twelve. She walked down the hallway, looking for the room. Malessica approached the door, standing there silently.

“Here it is.”

Standing in front of the door, they hesitated to do anything. Malessica’s body started to shake rapidly, raising hand to knock on the door. She couldn’t even make contact with the door, without starting to cry. Isaac

What are we going to do now?”

Malessica wiped her tears. “Leave it to me. I learned how to use my manifestation.”

Crouching down, she placed her hand on the doorknob. She absorbed the brass, coating her hand with the substance, forming a key with her finger. Amazed by the manifestation, Isaac watched as she opened the door. They were greeted with a foul odor, smacking them in the face once the door opened. They both covered their nose, making their way inside. Shutting the door behind them, locking it. They observed around the apartment, not sure if anyone was inside. Despite the odor, Isaac felt calm not seeing anyone around.

Malessica kept her nose covered. “We should search the rooms to make sure, we’re alone. I’ll check the door on the left, you check the door on the right.”

“Got it.” he replied, keeping his nose covered.

Isaac made his way to the door on the right, placing his hand on the doorknob. Turning the knob to the right, he slowly pushed the door open. The room behind the door was the bedroom. To his luck, he didn’t find anyone inside. The bed wasn’t made and the papers were all over the floor along with empty bottles of alcohol.

“It’s all clear in here.” he
