Before now, I was only really familiar with the practices of male circumcision. Learning about FGM is very interesting, but also a troubling topic. It seems that this is a very painful process, and one that does more harm than good to women. I think that it differs from male circumcision because it does not seem as necessary for a woman to go through this process, than a man. To me, this is why it seems fairly uncommon in the United States. Also, I think it is different for women because women are at greater risk for harm against there bodies. Meaning, this could affect their abilities to have children (cite). That is far more damaging and devastating than anything a man could go through, in my opinion, Whereas, in a man, this is not something
