Smith 3 male centric play, the lack of women roles really show why it is. The two female characters in Hamlet do not play a significant role. Ophelia does not get taken seriously and Gertrude is self centred and only thinks about her body and external pleasures. Both of these characters died due to Hamlet’s actions. Both of these characters are seen as weak and are easily manipulated.
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is sometimes considered the best work of art in all of human history. Hamlet is male centric, there is no argument there. Some other famous movies are male centric; The Godfather by Mario Puzo, Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King, or even The Boondocks Saints by Troy Duffy. There may be a select group of people who decide not to watch these blockbuster films due to their male centric attitudes, but it does not distract the reader or audience member because of this. In Hamlet there is some comments towards women that are insulting or aggressive, the lack of female characters, and the general lack of appreciation for women in the play makes Hamlet by William Shakespeare a male centric
