Education is valued all around the world but , What is the components of a good education? The ultimate components of a good education is determination. Determination is having the motivation to do more than our current status, status does not mean economically but intellectually. Malcolm X and Frederick Douglass and many others were determined to be educated no matter what kind of circumstances they were facing. Malcolm X became educated by his determination to know how to write well and become more articulate and be able to understand what he was reading. For instance, “ I saw that the best thing I could do was to get a hold of a dictionary- to study, to learn some words.” (1p.) He already knew that the dictionary was going to be a tool he would use to become more educated. Later on he mentioned “ It was both ideas together that moved me to request a dictionary along with some tablets and pencil from the Norfolk prison colony school.”(2p.) Malcolm X was in prison and he did not allow his circumstances to stop him from learning. He wanted use his time wisely by requesting a dictionary ,tablets ( notepads),and a pencil. Another quote that really shows his determination is for instance, “let me tell you something from then until I left that prison, in every free moment I had, if I was not reading in the library I was reading in my couldn 't have gotten me out of books with a wedge”(3p.)
