In today’s moderate world when there is a civil rights issue people don’t have use the same methods as back in the day. There is no single leader that people can march with or take up for them when there is an issue. Most people sit behind their computers, or cell phone and battle the worlds issues the social media like Facebook and twitter. This is the new activist. Social media is great for a lot a thing. Social media is a good way to keep up with friends, and family. It’s even good for keeping up with the latest fashions, celebrities, and parties. Social media can even help grow a small business. Social media can even help you find jobs and entrain you at the same time. These things are great advances, but would it have been effective in the Montgomery bus boycott? The Montgomery bus boycott took place in Montgomery Alabama. December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks 42 years old was on her way home from work. She took a seat at the front of the bus, because there were no chairs at the back of the bus were the colored people was supposed to sit. The bus driver asked Rosa to give up here sit to a white woman and she would move. That night she was arrested. This event started the Montgomery bus boycott. They tended to organize hierarchically with professional management and clear division of labor. They used universities as a way of gaining central leadership, and trust. They held face to face meeting regularly. These actions worked in their favor. They would never give up any information or turn on anyone who belonged to their organization. Later they tried a new approach. They moved their Organization in formed networks. The groups were regularly infiltrated and members once arrested easily give up their comrades. This is fact that social media is far less effective, because there is no discipline. The people on social media do not do what is necessary to make things happen like the activist from the past. Social media is helpful for a lot of other things. It has proven to be helpful for other situations. The late Malcolm Gladwell gave in example in the article about how the organization power of the internet. He used the story line of the woman who lost her phone on wall street and how social media help her in this situation. The woman had a friend name Evan who worked on Wall street. Evan called the cell phone company and had the information transferred from the lost phone to the new phone. They found out that the phone was being used by a teenage and she refused to give it back.
