Malala Yousafzai, the girl who stood up and changed the world. This book is about her life and how she stood up against the Taliban to allow her and other girls to attend school. She went to the Khushal School which was run by Ziauddin Yousafzai, her father. He was an activist against the Taliban. She worked with Patricia McCormick to write the young reader's edition of her story. Patricia McCormick, who is a two time National Book Award Finalist, her books have stories about major world problems.
I chose this book because its author is a Pakistani and my culture can relate to that because we share so much of the same cultural beliefs since Pakistan use to be part of India before Pakistan gained independence from India on August 14, 1947. An experience that is similar to Malala was from when I was 7 years old and I got a slapped on my hand with a ruler for not completing the homework and kicked out of class until I finished my home work. I remember that I did not go to school because I had a very high fever since I was terrified from that teacher. “I was momentarily confused when the teacher told us to hold out our hands- then stunned when he slapped my and my cousin’s palms with a stick.” (malala 100) Through this quote she explains how she was slapped for the first time for being late to
