In the United States it is a requirement that all children attend school regardless of race, gender, or religion. The right to an education is something that too many children take for granted in the US. In Pakistan not all children have the right to attend school, and it took one brave young woman to stand up for the right for millions of children across the world who are not allowed to go to school. Malala Yousafzai could have gone along with what she was told to do, but she believed that she deserved an education and used the power of her words, not violence to fight for education for women. Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997 to Ziauddin and Tor Pekai, both Sunni Muslims from Swat Valley in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. …show more content…
Death threats were published in the national newspapers, sent to her house and also posted on facebook. However, this did nothing to stop Malala from giving speeches and speaking out about education. One of her speeches contained one of her most recognizable quotes “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.” Her determination to keep fighting for the rights of others was what made the leaders of the Taliban order for her to be killed.On October 9, 2012 two members of the Taliban stopped her bus and shot Malala in the head at point blank range. The bullet went through the side of her head, neck and shoulder, Malala was rushed to a hospital in Peshawar and was put into surgery and part of her skull cap was removed to reduce the swelling of her brain. She was then flown to Queen Elizabeth Medical Center in Birmingham, United Kingdom. She awoke for the first time since her assassination attempt on October 16,2012. She had to undergo several more surgeries to fix her hearing and replace her skull cap. Malala only had a 70% chance of survival but miraculously made a full recovery and only had more desire to fight for
