In his article “We Are Teaching High School Students to Write Terrible,” Matthew J.X. Malady claims that there is a plethora of problems with the essay section of the SAT and it is teaching students poor writing skills. He explains that one of the main reasons there are problems with the SAT essay is because readers take 2-3 minutes to grade each essay, and are rewarded for being speedy.
