Making The Numbers Sing Essay

The last two ideas that are mentioned in the book are making the numbers sing and verbalization. Making the numbers sing is the third most important idea in the book, because it helps presenters avoid over complicating numbers for their audience. This idea is a personal favorite, as it is distracting to provide several parts of data and numbers into a presentation. Making the numbers sing refers to making the numbers in presentations understandable for number-fluent and number-challenged people. Numbers should be used as a guideline to create clear information for the key ideas. The fourth important idea is verbalization. According to the book, "verbalization means turning your outline into a full-fledged presentation by practicing it beforehand” …show more content…
Incorporating faith with business can be difficult at times, but is an important part of furthering a person’s career and knowledge. The first verse that can be used in business is Deuteronomy 8:18, “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day” (ESV). This verse is important for people to understand they are not in control, because people think power is within wealth. People tend to forget that their wealth comes from the power of God, and that God is the ultimate provider for His people. The next Bible verse is Isaiah …show more content…
Colossians 3:23 says, “whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (ESV). This verse provides a sense of work ethic, and calls people to work hard and diligently at what they do. II Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (ESV). Using scripture through life will get people much further in life than walking alone. God provides scripture for His people so that we can turn to it in times of need and guidance. Even in business, guidance can come from the Bible. Another verse that is beneficial for every business major to read is found in Proverbs. Proverbs 10:4 reads, “a slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (ESV). Being lazy will provide nothing, but working hard and diligently will being wealth to many. People always say that the more blood, sweat, and tears you put into something, the more accomplished you will feel. The last verse that coincides with business is Colossians 3:17 and it says, “and whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (ESV). Calling on your faith is not a weakness, it is a strength. In everything we do,

I have found that number talks are really helpful for building number sense as well as assessing number sense. When I use number talks in my classroom it allowed me to easily see gaps in understanding with some of my students. Simply learning math facts through memorization is not very helpful. I can't count the number of times that I have memorized facts of some sort for a test and then promptly forgotten all of the facts after finishing the test. Our brain just doesn't work that way.…

“Management is, above all, a practice where art, science, and craft meet”- Henry Mintzberg. What about when Christianity is included in this meeting? The role of Christianity in business is one that has long since been debated among Christians and non-believers alike. Both management and Christianity have assumptions by which they work, some which are contrasting and others that are complementary. As a result, there are ongoing tensions which Christians managers need to reconcile on a daily basis between the business world and their faith.…

Erica, you have a violate point, forming a contract with an unbeliever may protect a Christian from liability. Operating a Christian based business can have a good influence on a non-believer. In 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, Paul states, that “believers should not bind relationships with unbelievers because this weakens their commitment, integrity, and standards” (Tyndale, 2005, p. 1948). Christians in the business world tend to compromise their beliefs and values for the sake of the business. According to White, “to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, then, is to be in a situation or relationship that binds you to the decisions and actions of people who have values and purposes incompatible with Jesus’ values and purposes (White,2011, p.13).…

Joshua 1:9 is a powerful scripture; however, I can’t speak on it without including Hebrews 11:1 which states that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. These two scriptures should give us all the encouragement we need to overcome any task set before us. God continues to provide us with the strength, support, will power, and determination to overcome any challenge set before us. As it relates to our business, we can look back over the scriptures and see where God is showing us that regardless of the path our business take we are to remain stable.…

It’s true Courtney that on the aspect of going into business with an unbeliever that the Bible does not clearly states that it’s wrong to do so. However, based on my interpretation there is a few verses that bring up valid points concerning this issue. The first would be 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” (King James Version) and Amos 3:3, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”…

Introduction Christianity position in managing a successful business is a priority. As Christians, how we present ourselves will have an ultimate effect on how society view us, the world, and especially God. Businesses and Christianity go hand in hand because guidance, leadership, and knowledge of all operations are written in the bible. The Bible illustrates the goodness of unity and the use of one 's gift to benefit others. From a Christian worldview, businesses and society should overall do what is right and not become accustom to the comforts and temptation the world has to offer.…

Subject to Murphy’s Law, a failure generated an internal and external challenge. The purchase was for 1,000 units; however, a broken machine created a problem in shipping one 1,000-unit pallet to a client. Certainly, missing the shipment can negatively affect the balanced scorecard metric and the associated performance bonus. More importantly, unethical actions and behaviors can adversely impact customer relations and possibly expose the firm to legal liability. In a broader application, negative word-of-mouth marketing or litigation stemming from substandard performance creates exposure, which can adversely affect brand image.…

Meanwhile, Hebrews 7 helps us understand a better way of tithing. After studying the Scriptures of Hebrew, we have a better reason why tithing is important; it should not be done by law; but out of love. The other Epistles such as James, Peters and Jude help us understand our role in society as believers. The book of James exclusively dissect the term “faith without work is dead” (James 2:14).…

The first stage, declaration is “to arrive at a place of committed belief.” These represent the new believers and as infants need to be fed the milk of Christianity so they do not abandon the faith. The second stage, development is “focusing on the importance of immersion, abandonment, and apprenticeship into ministry.”…

When I first looked at this question, I had no idea where to begin. What made odd numbers different from even numbers? From our first days in school we learned that an odd number was any number that wasn’t divisible by 2, which in turn means every number that isn’t even. But what really sets apart an odd number from an even number? I believe that an even number is a sign of perfection.…

Service has always been an essential part of the Christian faith. Jesus himself served others by spreading the word of salvation and showing kindness to those around him. Essentially, to those that were thought less of, tax collectors, prostitutes, lepers and anyone else not fully accepted into society. This is stated in Mark 10:45, “for even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many” (NIV). Therefore, it is only right for the followers of Christ to follow in his footsteps and serve those in need.…
