Chapter 1: Dr. Dosa is a geriatrician on the third floor at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation center. He goes to tell us that he is the first geriatrician of a family line of pediatricians, and wanted to become one simply because he believes that older patients are “like rich paintings and boy do they have stories to tell”. This particular nursing home has cats, which we are introduced to Oscar, who is not the friendliest cat, and especially not Dr. Dosa’s favorite cat. In fact he doesn’t like cats at all. It is also mentioned that Oscar only spends time with patients that are about to pass. Although Dr. Dosa doesn’t believe in such thing when he saw Oscar with Mrs. Davis who died when Oscar had lain with her, which strikes his curiosity.
Chapter 2: Dr. Dosa found himself in New York because he was a finalist for a major research award from a prestigious New York foundation. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the funds for his research, but soon after the news he got a call from Mary, his receptionist saying that Mrs. Ellen sanders passed away, but the odd thing was yet again …show more content…
Henry was a stray that kept wandering up to the home and would sneak in but being chased right back out. Until finally they gave up on trying to run him out and he took his place as you could say the mascot of the nursing home. He enjoyed his ten years at the nursing home and was a favorite of the staff and residents. Until his finally days at the nursing home where he eventually lost his vision, walking into walls or closed doors. His behavior also changed becoming unpredictable, he would often get lost outdoors, and other days he would curl up in the corner of the elevator and ride it all day. So when Henry unfortunately passed they made him a coffin and had him a eulogy. Since Henry they have opened the Steere home to six cats, making it feel kind of a home
