Regarding the piece, Making Not Knowing by Ann Hamilton, I feel that the driving question of the piece was to find the reasoning behind human dialogue, verbal and nonverbal. This is exhibited throughout the essay as she parallels the the phenomenon of verbal communication and that of art making. This is a transition that occurs the obvious in paragraph 5, where she ties in enigmatic similarities of art making with that of diction. Towards the second half, I feel the answer that became the question in this case was that art is present because self expression is necessary.
