It is believed that making community college free would ruin the potential of young minds and others side believes that it has the potential to create a better environment for young minds and more opportunities for lower income students.
In the article, a study was introduced where low income high-school graduates had a higher likelihood of gaining a bachelors degree if they enrolled into a community college. This opposes the previous research conducted that stated that lower income students are less likely to earn bachelor's degrees. Lowering the price can nudge students not to attend lower quality institutions but to attend them and transfer to others in order to pursue a career. Even if students don’t transfer to a higher quality institution they can still get a degree in something that community college specializes in. Having a more diverse community would essentially give the school political protection because of its middle class identity, as stated in the article. It would also bring more funding to community colleges because political capital. More funding from the state would allow community colleges to expand and grown and provide more for their students and the students will be able to get something more out of their college life experience. Community colleges would be able to spend more on their students, than they would’ve without state funding. This would also solve the problem of crowding, funding would allow the school to expand and change to the number of students that are going to
