Avoiding Change In My Life

Change is often inevitable and typically occurs naturally in ones life. Avoiding change has the ability to create both frustration and disappointment (Grant & Yoder-Wise, 2015). Making a change in my life allowed me to better understand the difficulties and successes one experiences during the change process. Switching into the nurses role and working along side someone through their change process encourages them to comply with the goal. According to Salmela, Eriksson, Fagerström (2012) nurses act as leaders and help to guide patients in the right direction as well motivate, set norms and standards, listen openly to opinions and beliefs, and provide encouragement amongst many more features. Being used to a routine and suddenly uprooting it is difficult. The lifestyle change I chose was maintaining a healthy eating pattern while having one cheat snack per week, which was less than 300 calories. Having a hectic schedule made this task difficult. It was hard to find the time to prepare healthy foods and snacks that I could grab throughout the day. Stopping and picking up snacks from a store was much more convenient. Ruff, Acklund & Adjoian (2016) found that corner stores negatively influence ones nutritional habits through the easily accessible, cheap and high calorie foods. These corner stores promote impulse buying of unhealthy snack foods and drinks (Ruff, Acklund & Adjoian, 2016). The other challenge that arose was finding recipes that were quick and easy to make that I enjoyed. Making a personalized recipe book that was tailored to my nutritional needs proved to be most beneficial when dealing with this issue.
