Over the years and across every culture, the purpose of makeup varies. Regardless of time and place, a key reason for the application of makeup is to change one's face. In the world of cosmetics, one of the most fundamental skills is the ability to contour. Contouring, or defining and emphasizing the faces natural curves using shadows and highlights, is one major way to alter the human face.
Finding the proper materials is crucial for a seamless contour. This includes three pressed powders, brushes, and other products needed to prepare the skin for powder application. On a medium to fair skin tone with a warm, any bronzer that is warm with a reddish undertone will match the natural shade of the skin. The warm bronzer needs to be matte, pigmented and blend easily, as in, will not appear patchy or uneven on the skin when applied with a cosmetic brush. A lighter bronzer that has more of a

One with relatively shorter synthetic bristles that end in a flat, blunt cut across the top, one with tapered bristles, and one with angled bristles. After all materials and tools are gathered, apply primer and foundation to the areas that will be contoured. The first step of the contouring process is to emphasize the cheekbone by enhancing the natural shadow that falls directly below it. To do this, take the warm bronzer and gently sweep the flat brush across the surface, evenly covering the top of the bristles with powder. Purse lips together as if drinking out of a straw, or whistling to improve cheekbone visibility. Starting from the hairline and ending an inch and a half to two inches away from the corners of the mouth, create a line of product, following the cheekbone as a guide. Do this same process on the other cheek, and leave both cheeks unblended for the time being. The line should be stark and unnatural looking, but leaving the product on the skin, a process called “baking” will allow the powder to set into the skin and last
