Makerspace Personal Statement

Makerspaces
Makerspaces allow libraries to offer their patrons innovating technology like 3D printers, sewing machines, coding, and robotics that was not previously and readily assessable. Additionally, makerspaces promote lifelong learning in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical field. For example, libraries whether public, school, or academic are increasingly embracing makerspaces. Makerspaces offer the community a place where patrons can learn through interactive classes and provide advanced technology to a wide range of demographics, especially low-income patrons and minorities. I love how makerspaces are positively impacting their local community and how they help foster a new-found interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in young kids or even adults. Finally, I will become an advocate for makerspaces and the advanced technology that it offers, especially at my urban branch library.

Through innovating programs, technologies, and services, libraries can unify a community. With the assistance of new technologies and trends in learning and literacy, libraries are becoming a meeting space for hands-on learning. Also, libraries use community input to gauge the needs of their patrons and to plan and update programs and services. I love how patrons of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds utilize the libraries and its resources. Working at the public library, I advocate and endorse our programs, resources, and services that we provide to our city; our branch library is a safe and welcoming gathering space for all
