When one thinks about dirt, what comes to mind? Dirty items, like dirty shoes, shirts, and pants. The question comes up, is dirt really dirty? Take this thought, you play baseball, and you slide into home plate. When you get up, happy you scored the run, and you dust the dirt off. So now you are all dirty, or are you? Can they be such a thing as clean dirt? In our lab, we were giving two bags of dirt, one looked like dirt you would dig up from someone back yard (sample B), the second one was some kind of mix I have looks like grayish sand (sample A). Topsoil is filled with nutrients which helps the plants grow. So is topsoil and dirt the same? Looking at the graph below, you can see there diff levels or horizons. The top lay, Horizon Organic, is about zero to two inches deep. With this experiment we tried to decrease any forms of error. We didn’t have to write down the other groups finding, which cut out if they had any errors. We recheck the levels twice, and also, cleaned out all the cups, and measured twice. The only error, I could think of having was using all the dirt, we should have saved some. Also, Sample B which I picked had sticks, and a worm in it. This was also one of the reasons why I picked sample B. The ribbon test was performed, but the finding weren’t good. Only good thing was that we stated sample A was some kind of clay, because it did roll into a ball, and sample B didn’t. Sample B was a lot more gritty than sample A. I felt this could also be an error, because I didn’t know if we were doing it right. Sample A did make a ribbon at 5cm, others being 4cms So when one person thinks is dirt dirty? Remember there are 12 diff types of soil, with sample A being possible clay, and sample B could be have been silty loam.
