Major Winters Career

Major winters was perhaps one of the greatest commanding officer in World War 2. He commanded commanded Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during world war 2. Winters started as a second lieutenant when he joined Easy Company and after the war he ended as a Major. In Winters’ service he has done some amazing acts on the battlefield and even awarded for his actions.
According to herosforever.nl “Winters was born in Pennsylvania on January 21, 1918 and graduated from Franklin-Marshall College in June 1941 with a business major”. Winters and his men eventually saw the end of the European campaign while occupying Adolf Hitler's mountainside retreat, the Eagle's Nest, nestled in the Alps above Berchtesgaden”. They celebrated by drinking champagne from the Fuhrer's 10,000-bottle”. One funny moment from “Band of Brothers” is when Winters brings Captain Nixon to where all the liquor the Germans confiscated and lets him pic what he wants. Nixon’s jaw about dropped to the floor and cause he’s a bit of a drunk and basically given an unlimited supply of liquor. It was sad even though Germany was defeated and there was no battle, American soldiers were still dying. The next part in “Band of Brothers” is when Major Winters started to put his men in different positions so that they wouldn’t get transferred to the Pacific. This seemed to be one of his main missions, to get as many as his men away from battle as fast as he could. In Major Winters’ memoirs “one of Maj. Winters's soldiers, Floyd Talbert, wrote him a letter from an Indiana hospital, thanking him for his loyalty and leadership”. Towards the end of “Band of Brothers” Major winters went to see about a transfer to the Pacific so that he could aid in the continuing war with Japan. The general asks “if you are doing this for a star, you’ve done enough”. Winters did do enough way more than anyone could have asked him to. According to the washngtonpost “Maj. Winters turned down the opportunity to make the Army a career” and he “was recalled to active duty during the Korean War as a training officer”.
