He doesn’t start asking questions until his encounter with the neighbor girl named Clarissa. Montag is curious about what is in the books and why they are so bad and so he stole a book from their last “job” and took it home with him. His captain figures out what he has done and gives Montag a chance to burn the book himself or return it to him. Montag partners up with an older guy named Faber, and they make a copy of the book to try and fool captain Beatty. Entertainment is a major ones because his wife is obsessed with her three walls and she is so invested in the walls that she doesn’t know what happening around her. As you can see in this conversation between Montag and Mildred we can see that she has the walls and her car to drain out what her responsibilities and problems are, “And if it was not the three walls soon to be four walls and the dream complete, then it was the open car and Mildred rising a hundred miles an hour across town, he shouting at her and she shouting back and both trying to hear what was said, but hearing only the scream of the car.” We also see the themes of censorship and government control which kind of go together. An example from the book would be when Montag responds to Clarissa the neighbor girl, “Do you ever read any the books you burn? He laughed. That’s against the law.” Another example is when Montag responds to Clarissa by saying, “It’s fine work. Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman, Friday Faulkner, burn ‘em to ashes, then burn that ashes. That’s our official slogan.” Even their slogan shows that burning the books is all Montag know because that what the majority says is right. Government Control is present in this book because Montag’s captain will do anything to keep the knowledge of these books out of reach from the people. An example in the book of this is when they get word there is a lady with a multitude of books in her house and Beatty tells them that their job is to take care of this situation. The lady will not leave because she would rather be burned with her books then watch them be burned. Montag tries to talk her out of staying and tries to pull her out but when she will not leave Captain Beatty takes matters into his own hands. When he says, “Beatty raised his hand in which was concealed the igniter. We’re due back to the house. Besides, these fanatics always try

Under the Bill of Rights in the United States constitution, Americans are granted the freedoms of religion, assembly, and in relevance to Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the rights to free speech and the sharing of information via the press. Bradbury’s science fiction novel takes place in a futuristic dystopian America where all forms of literature are deemed illegal by the government. To uphold the book ban are firemen, whose job it is to start fires rather than putting them out in the traditional sense. Guy Montag, the novels central character, is one of these firemen. Early in the novel, Montag meets a young, free-spirited girl named Clarisse, who gets Montag to begin questioning the very system he is a part of. Montag’s character has a change of heart, as he went from a man who burned books for a living to wanted to preserve and protect them after learning what books actually have to offer: knowledge, opinions, creativity, and new ideas. The banning of books is most certainly unconstitutional as it suppresses the people’s rights to free speech and free press. The government of Fahrenheit 451’s futuristic United States ban on literature is a clear attack on liberty and the citizens have been socialized to stay numb and ignorant of this oppression to the governments…
