I volunteered at Jack Jouett Middle School for the eighth-grade AVID program. In the classes, I helped students go through the AVID tutorial process. I functioned as a guide who coached the students through a Socratic process to understand points of confusion from their core classes, and then through collaborative work to understand the steps needed to clarify their point of confusion. All students in the AVID class apply to be in the program. They must have average to high test scores with a C to B+ grade point average.…

If I raised my voice it was not directed towards Major Trevino. My raised voice was simply a display of the emotional frustration I was feeling in general about all the issues listed above. It was never my intention to offend Major Trevino personally or him as a leader. In my defense, I feel that if Major Trevino really had a problem with my voice as he say being unprofessional by my voice rising, then he could have stopped the meeting. I then asked why it has to be this way… Why it has to be this way with management…please tell me why”.…

The major I would like to pursue is supply chain and logistics technology. It is a diverse field of study that I see myself succeeding in. Throughout my life, I have been helping my mom with similar job descriptions that fall into this field of study. Seeing my mother at work and owning several businesses made me interested in the supply chain aspects of the business function. Being able to make sales by lowering the cost of an initial product in order to maximize gains in a final product is something that interests me as well.…

As an incoming student to this college, I was overwhelmed with an immense amount of fear and anxiety. With 2 sciences and a history already on my schedule, the thought of a freshman symposium was almost too much, especially considering I knew nothing about what a class called Secret Communications would entail. I had absolutely no idea what would be expected of me, and I feared that this class would simply be another complex seminar with a rigid criteria and little room for creativity or self-expression, which I’d desperately hoped for in attending this specific college. However, I instantly realized that my negative preconceptions of this class were completely false. From the very first class, Professor Kilic-Bahi made it clear that our unique opinions mattered, and that any ideas we had would be incorporated into the class.…

Plotting this particular story was challenging and tedious. In addition to this, “Barn Burning” left me with many unresolved questions. Granted, I am not sure if I overlooked clues which may have answered them, or if this individual story was meant to have unresolved issues. Furthermore, the central theme, though I understand we were not working on the theme, is still a mystery to me. I cannot seem to determine what the author was trying to convey with his contrasting images of fire, metal, and nature.…

I was also able to decipher which majors I would best fit my skills and personality. This led me to narrow down my choice of majors to accounting and finance. I choose finance because it provides me with the ability to use my skills in analysis and technology. Some of the careers associated with the finance major also allow me to travel, which is also something I am interested in.
