In “The Real World,” James Farrell says, “…‘the real world’ is basically the commercial world, the world of American business. When students talk about ‘the real world,’ they’re not usually thinking about love and relationships or friends and children. They’re not talking about spiritual life or religious community. They’re not talking about their leisure pursuits. They’re not talking about travel or vacations. They’re talking about the work world, in which people toil for a wage to support themselves” (Farrell). James Farrell explains that students are only referring to the work aspect of “the real world,” which is not the case in “The Major Life Differences Between College and the Real World.” James Teague, on the other hand, mentions the social life, traveling opportunities, and romance involved in “the real world.” He explains that it is easier to make new friends during college because everyone is around the same age, but after college, people have to adjust to dealing with people of all different ages.
