I wrote about Amartya Sen’s capability approach and how Tufekci incorporates this approach stating that “a capacity approach means evaluating the movement’s collective ability to achieve social change.” (Tufekci, 2017, P. 195). I observed the academic advising center located on the 3rd floor of the CSUMB library. Under this theory, the purpose of the essay was to look at the number of both male and female genders that used this academic center. Additionally, I came up with a methodological approach on how to apply this theory to a study. My methodological approach to using positivism theory was to include a cohort of approximately five people as the control group and five others as the uncontrolled group. The control group includes individuals that attend the academic center two or more times a year. The uncontrolled variable group includes five individuals who have never attended these academic services. Between these two groups, one could look at each individual’s academic performance and compare those who attend regular advising appointments versus others who have never used the services. By creating this methodological approach and using a social science theory I was also to demonstrate knowledge of social science theory, application and apply these theories to real-life examples to further understand these
