One major function of the United States Congress is lawmaking. Congress creates and passes laws and policies that affect the everyday life of the constituents. Congress is the only branch that has the power to create laws and regulations. Some examples of those laws are regulating television, gun control, and food safety the list goes on. Many of the bills considered by Congress are given to them by interest groups or political party. I believe this is the most important function that Congress performers. The reason I believe this is the most important function is due to the fact that the laws are what keep the order in the state. Laws protect our general safety, and ensure our rights as citizens against abuses by other people, by organizations, and by the government itself.
Oversight is another major function of Congress. Congressional oversight alludes to oversight by the United States Congress on the Executive Branch, including the various U.S. government offices. Congressional oversight alludes to the survey the executive branch and makes sure that laws are carried out properly.

There are opposing views on how representation should be accomplished, some people believe Congress should be trustees and others believe they should be delegates. A trustee does what they think is best for the country and delegates vote exactly how their constituents want them
