Social inequalities and Economic caused the revolution. The French revolution started because the French supported the American Revolution, increasing their debt (Williams, PPTS.) Since the French was in need of money, Louis XVI of France proposed new sources of taxes. One of them was the land tax, even the aristocracy and church had to pay but they refused. The Peasants did not agree with the land taxation because they had to pay more and were the only ones paying their taxes. The King agreed to call a meeting of the Estates General which included the nobility, clergy and commoners (Frankforter; Spellman 508.) On June, 1789, the Third Estate appeared to the meeting but only to find out that they were not allowed to enter. After, the Third Estate named themselves the National Assembly and numerous representatives of the lower clergy and a number of liberal nobles broke off to join forces with the National Assembly (Funk & Wagnalls ’16.) The National Assembly was created with the same ideas as the Americans. They wanted to be free, have religious toleration and a basic constitution (Williams, PPTS.) During the Peace Conference there was some events that led to the WWII, for example when British and French agreed to make Germany and their partners pay for the war. They were responsible, for the war reparations, lost colonies and demilitarized (Williams, PPTS.) The President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson wanted a “fair and lasting peace” so he came up with the Fourteen Points. Wilson’s decided to travel and present his ideas. Major decisions at the conference were made initially by the Council of Ten, which comprised two representatives from each of the five Great Powers: France, Great Britain, the United States, Italy, and Japan (Keleher, Gould ‘15.) The Wilson’s Fourteen Points consisted of Freedom of the seas, end to secret diplomacy, end international tariffs, reduction of armaments, and establishment of a League of Nations (Williams, PPTS.)
