3 major events from WW2 are the Attack on Pearl Harbour, The Bombing of Darwin and the Battle of Kokoda. Pearl Harbour was an attack on the US Naval base by the Japanese Navy. The Bombing of Darwin, also known as The Battle of Darwin was the largest single attack ever undertook by a foreign power on Australia. The battle of Kokoda was a 4 month battle between the Japanese and Australians. Although all 3 of these events occurred at different times and in different places they are closely related and all had an effect on the other.
The attack on Pearl Harbour took place in a lagoon harbour on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu on the 7th of December 1941 around 8am. Majority of the harbour and surrounding land being the United States Navy deep-water naval base and headquarters for the United States Pacific Fleet made the attack easy because all the battleships were docked together at the same harbour. Over 1,177 lives were lost when the battleship U.S.S. Arizona exploded. The attack on Pearl Harbour gave President Roosevelt no choice but to declare war on Japan, the allies desperately needed the help of one of the most powerful nations, the U.S, they needed their man power and troops although they started off slow, by 1942 they were in full swing. Their resources (soldiers, weapons, transportation, food, fuel, etc.) were spread very thin due to fighting on 2 fronts but that didn’t stop them from sinking the six aircraft carriers that were involved in the attack on Pearl Harbour.
