Major depression is when a person experiences signs of depression that lastsa two weeks or more. If a person feels depressed everyday for weeks they may suffer from a type of mental illness called major depression disorder. This disorder affects over fifteen million adults in America. Depression can affect most anyone but is most common in elderly. Some of the major causes of depression is loss. Adults in late life tend to experience numbers of losses (Lewis, 2003). The number of loss a person can experience during the course of aging can be hard to cope with. They can experience loss of employmeny due to retirement. The decrease of financial stability is a big facto for depression. Loss of health plays a huge role. It is just a fact that as we age our health tends to get worse and worse. We can experience loss of hearing, eye sight, and even loss of mobility. I think the worst type of loss is the loss of a spouce. These are just a few losses that can lead to major depression. The causes can really affect a persons behaviour, no matter what their age may be. There are many signs and symptoms of depression, most lie in a persons behaviour. An individual suffering from major depression may experience fatigue, poor concentration, a feeling of worthlesness, helplessness, and may even feel like they are a burden …show more content…
Kruger is a 61 year old male who lives alone. He suffers from hypertension snd hypothyroidism. He was recently diagnosed with depression. He has trouble managing his medicine alone. He barely goes to work. He has became so depressed that he does not take care of himself. He will go days without bathing. He recently stated that he does not even have the will to get up and prepare himself a meal anymore. He depend on his daughter for help, and that makes him feel like he is a burden to her and her family. He was recently perscribed prozac for his depression.
