In most severe cases both are needed to help treat this disease. However this isn't a disease where you take one pill or therapy session and all the sudden your cured. Depression may always be there or it will slowly dissipate over time. But there are treatments to help a person through depression and guide them on how to deal with it so that it doesn't lead to severe outcomes. Treatments include counseling. This may include individual, couple or family. This is a controlled environment where you can talk and discuss how you feel and how or why you feel it, As well as to find solutions and come up with a plan to fix it. Seek mental health help. If you are feeling depressed it could be just an episode that therapy may help however it could be more than that. If think suicidal thoughts there are medical hotline how ever go in to the ER.
